NDPHC targets more businesses with power supply initiative

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) says it is targeting more businesses and industries with reliable electricity through its eligible customer programme.
Jennifer Adighije, managing director of NDPHC, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Ms Adighije spoke at the launch of the company’s Customer Service Week in Abuja, where she said the programme provides eligible customers with dedicated power supply under mutually agreed commercial arrangements.
She said the initiative was part of NDPHC’s efforts to bridge the gap between available generation capacity and the growing demand for reliable electricity from the productive sector.
“The initiative is particularly relevant to customers whose production activities depend heavily on consistent and predictable electricity,” she said.
Ms Adighije said NDPHC’s generation portfolio included major power plants developed under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) and strategically located across the country.
She said the company had intensified efforts to maximise asset value by recovering dormant capacity, rehabilitating underperforming facilities and improving operational availability.
According to her, additional capacity could be unlocked through the rehabilitation and optimisation of existing plants, improved gas availability and the resolution of infrastructure constraints affecting generation and evacuation.
She cited the recent restoration of the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia as a major development.
The plant, which was shut down in 2023 amid gas supply and metering disputes, has since returned to service.
Ms Adighije said the restoration was part of NDPHC’s efforts to recover stranded capacity and increase its contribution to national electricity supply.
She noted that manufacturers and commercial operators needed reliable, commercially predictable electricity to support production planning, cost management, and long-term investment.
“This is where NDPHC believes the eligible customer programme can play a critical role by establishing stronger commercial linkages between generation assets and productive-sector consumers.
“At NDPHC, we remain committed to powering the nation’s progress by strengthening the infrastructure that delivers electricity to homes, businesses and industry.
“The programme also aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to improve electricity supply to productive sectors, stimulate industrialisation and make the power sector more commercially sustainable,” she said.
Ms Adighije thanked existing customers for their confidence in the programme and urged more eligible businesses to take advantage of it.
She said NDPHC currently has 10 power plants with 28 gas turbines and three steam turbines, with an installed capacity of about 4,000MW.
According to her, the portfolio represents a significant component of Nigeria’s installed generation capacity and provides a strong platform to support large consumers.
She explained that the eligible customer programme was designed to provide qualifying consumers with a more direct and commercially structured electricity supply arrangement aligned with their operational needs.
Also speaking, Patrick Obahiagbon, Executive Director, Strategy and Commercial, stressed the importance of a customer-focused culture in delivering value and strengthening stakeholder relationships.
The event was attended by members of NDPHC’s Executive Management Team, including Abdullahi Kassim, Executive Director, Generation; Steven Andzenge, Executive Director, Legal Services and Company Secretary; and Bello Bello, Executive Director, Networks.
General managers, heads of departments and other staff also attended the event.
