NDLEA raided Kano drug dens on Christmas Eve, arrested 34 suspects: Official

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has arrested 34 suspects with different quantities of illicit substances in the state.
ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the command’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Kano.
Mr Muhammad-Maigatari quoted the state commander of the agency, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, as saying the arrest was made during a raid as part of proactive measures to ensure a safe and drug-free Kano during the Christmas and New Year celebration.
“On December 24, the agency dislodged several notorious drug joints across the state,” said the NDLEA spokesman. “These drug dens are located in Fagge Area, Sani Abacha Stadium, Danagundi, and the historically infamous Filin Idi drug den.”
He said the command successfully recovered a substantial amount of illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, suck and die, and Exol-5, among others.
Other recovered items, according to him, are dangerous arms being used by drug peddlers to pursue and attack officers.
“The drug users will receive the necessary counselling and support to aid their recovery,” he assured.
The commander noted that the seizures demonstrated the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the availability of harmful substances within the community during the festive seasons.
He noted that investigations were ongoing, and those found culpable would be charged to court upon completion.
Mr Muhammad-Maigatari reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of all Kano citizens.
“We will continue to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from the streets of Kano and promote awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, as community cooperation is essential in this fight against drug-related issues.
“On behalf of the chairman/chief executive officer of the agency, Brig.-Gen Mohamed Buba-Marwa, we extend our warm wishes to the people of Kano for a peaceful Christmas celebration and a drug-free New Year festival,” he said.
