Nasarawa LG chairman urges vigilance, peaceful coexistence to advance Nigeria

Chairman of Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, Abubakar Madaki, has called for vigilance and peaceful coexistence among people of different tribes and religions in Nigeria to move the country forward.
He made the call at the 2025 Annual Dinner and Award Night of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Nyanya-Mararaba District Society, held on Saturday in Abuja.
Mr Madaki emphasised that peace was vital for development across all sectors.
“It is important for us to live in peace, tolerate one another, and be law-abiding citizens,” he said.
He further urged vigilance, advising attendees to report any suspicious activities to security agencies to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
“We are one, regardless of our tribal or religious differences,” Madaki stressed.
He also addressed the misconception that Nasarawa State had not fully leveraged its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Madaki, Governor Abdullahi Sule has implemented several developmental projects to maximise the benefits of the state’s closeness to the FCT.
Mr Madaki was presented with the “Pacesetter Award” by the ICAN district for his contributions to the district’s development.
The District Chairman, Onilede Oluwafunmilayo, explained that the award and dinner were held to appreciate dignitaries and members who have supported the district.
“We appreciate them for their service to the Nyanya-Mararaba District Society of ICAN and the Institute,” she said.
During the event, Dr Salisu Saad from the Federal Inland Revenue Service gave a lecture on “Managing Tax Risk: Strategies for Mitigation and Compliance.”
He clarified the distinction between lawful tax compliance and criminal tax avoidance.
Awards were also given to Akeem Yahaya, Anthony Amoman, Ajayi Bamidele, Ochije Chukwuma, and Madaki.
The event featured a cultural dance performance, cake-cutting, and brief dancing by dignitaries.
