Nasarawa govt. trains ICT unit heads on e-governance

The Nasarawa State government has begun training for heads of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) preparatory to implementing its e-governance policy.
The two-day training on Wednesday in Lafia was organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service in collaboration with the Bureau for Information and Communication Technology (BICT).
Abigail Waya, acting Head of Civil Service (HOS), said the exercise was to equip the participants with requisite knowledge for the smooth digital switchover of government activities.
“The administration of Abdullahi Sule is committed to the digitalisation of our system of work, training and re-training, towards building efficient and a vibrant digital economy,” she said.
The HOS added that data processing and protection officers, confidential secretaries, executive officers and directors from all the MDAs would be trained in the next phase of the exercise.
She further explained that the training was also to create more understanding and improve efficiency on ICT to enable staff to drive the process of e-governance in their respective MDAs.
Ms Waya added that ICT was now a prerequisite for all public servants in the state to key into the idea of the government going paperless in the next few months.
Similarly, Emi Kasuwa, director of training, grading and pension, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, while welcoming participants from more than 40 MDAs in the state, said the exercise was to equip them with the technical know-how for digital switchover of government activities.
Earlier, Shehu Ibrahim, director-general BITC, advised that the knowledge gained at the exercise should be stepped down and used to achieve e-governance in the state.
