The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has directed its standing committee on works, to summon all contractors handling road projects across the state to appear before it.

The Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, gave the directive during plenary on Wednesday in Lafia.

The directive followed a matter of urgent public importance presented by Ibrahim Sa’ad, representing Umaisha/Ugya constituency of the state.

Mr Sa’ad in his submission, expressed deep concern over the

slow pace of work on the ongoing rehabilitation of the 48 km Toto/Umaisha road.

”Despite receiving more than half of the contract sum, work on the Toto/Umaisha road is below 30% completion.

”This is one of the legacy projects of this government that is located in my constituency, but the contractor is frustrating it

”This is unacceptable and I call on this honourable house to invite the contractor for clarification,”he called.

After contributions from other lawmakers, the speaker directed that all contractors handling road projects in the state should appear before its standing committee on works within two weeks.

Mr Jatau, who thanked Mr Sa’ad for presenting the matter at plenary, however, warned contractors handling all projects in the state to sit up or face stiffer sanctions.

”This Assembly will not fold its arms and watch contractors or individuals sabotage the efforts of the government toward providing dividends of democracy to the people,” he said.
