NAPTIP summons Speed Darlington over alleged rape of 15-year-old girl

Controversial musician Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, has been summoned by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) over online videos in which he admitted to sexual involvement with an underage girl.
The agency issued a formal invitation to the Nigerian entertainer on Thursday, requesting his appearance at its headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
The invitation, signed by the head of NAPTIP’s cybercrime response team, Ngamaraju Mangzha, referenced a video posted on Mr Okoye’s Instagram account, in which he made incriminating statements about engaging in sexual acts with a minor.
Additional archived videos circulating online allegedly contain similar admissions and degrading comments about minors, according to the agency.
NAPTIP stated that if the content of the videos is verified, the actions would constitute offences under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) of 2015, as well as the Cybercrime Act of the same year.
“You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview… Kindly bring along any legal representation or documents you may consider relevant,” the letter read in part.
The agency emphasised that failure to honour the invitation could result in further legal action.
Mr Okoye, known for his outlandish persona and outspoken presence on social media, has not publicly responded to the summons.
After receiving backlash from fans, the artiste came out to say he implicated himself to sell his upcoming song.
As of the time of filing this report, Peoples Gazette’s enquiries to NAPTIP regarding the outcome of Mr Okoye’s invitation were yet to receive a response.
