NAPTIP partnering Facebook to track traffickers: Official

The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) says it is deploying technology to deepen its commitment to end cases of child labour, abuse and trafficking for sexual exploitation in the state.
The head, NAPTIP liaison officer in Ebonyi, Bertha Offor, disclosed this at the 2022 edition of World Day Against Human Trafficking on Saturday.
Ms Offor said the agency was collaborating with Facebook to track perpetrators of such crimes.
According to her, technology has helped fight against human trafficking and should be encouraged to better society.
“Perpetrators used this medium to track their victims through recruitments, sexual exploitation and other evil crimes.
“So we say no to human trafficking, child labour, and abuse in the state,” Ms Offor said.
She, however, solicited the collaboration of the media to ensure an optimal result in the fight through sensitisation to prevent it from the grassroots.
The attorney general of the Ebonyi, Cletus Ofoke, said laws, policies and enabling environment were put in place to encourage actors on issues of gender-based violence and human trafficking.
Mr Ofoke, also chairman of the Task Force on Human Trafficking in the state, was represented by Faithvin Nwanchor, the state coordinator of, the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Taskforce, who maintained that human traffickers must be brought to book.
Laurette Nwafor, the state coordinator, Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour in the state, maintained that the aim would be achieved through the network approach.
Ms Nwafor added that the strategy would also eradicate the menace in society.
