Motorcyclist bags three-month imprisonment for stealing motorcycle

A Karu Senior Magistrates` Court, Abuja on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year-old motorcyclist, Sunday Michael, to three months in prison for stealing a motorcycle.
The magistrate, Lami Sani, however did not give the convict an option of fine, but warned him to desist from committing crime.
The convict, who resides at Jikwoyi, pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of theft.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the complainant, Guru Basu of Karu Village, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu police station on October 16.
According to him, the complainant alleged that on the same date, he saw the convict and one other suspect trying to sell a Bajaj motorcycle without a receipt.
He said in the process the convict was arrested and during police investigation, he confessed to have stolen the said motorcycle from an unknown person.
Adeyanju said the offence contravened section 287 of the Penal Code
