A businessman, Aliyu Sulaiman, on Tuesday declined a dowry refund offered him by his wife, Zainab Sulaiman, in a Shari’a court sitting at Rigasa, Kaduna state in a divorce case.

The defendant told the court that he would not accept the dowry refund because of their children.

He said, ‘‘I agree that the marriage should be dissolved. The court can grant my wife her prayer for divorce.’’

Earlier, the complainant prayed court to dissolve their marriage through Khul’i (redemption), saying she was ready to return the N14,000 dowry her husband gave for her hand in marriage.

The Judge, Muhammad Adamu, held that since the defendant agreed not to collect the dowry, which is his right according to Shari’a law, the court has agreed with his decision.

He said, “I Muhammad Adamu- Shehu hereby dissolve the marriage between Zainab Sulaiman and Aliyu Sulaiman.’’
