Man jailed six months for slapping, injuring woman in Plateau

An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old bus conductor, Adamu Musa, to six months imprisonment for causing grievous harm.
The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal intimidation and causing grievous harm.
The judge ordered the convict to pay a fine of N30,000 or spend six months at the correctional centre.
He also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N90,000 to the complainant, or spend six months at the correctional facility, “if he defaults to pay the compensation.’’
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokat, told the court that on January 6 at the Laranto Police Station Jos, the complainant, Aisha Abdullahi, reported the case.
He stated that the complainant said that the convict slapped her and inflicted serious injuries on her head. Gokat disclosed that during a police investigation the convict confessed to the crime.
He said the offences contravened provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code, Law of Northern Nigeria.
