The Nigerian army has promised to work with the Ondo State Amotekun Corps in tackling the prevalent kidnapping incidents in the state.

During a visit to the Amotekun Corps office in Akure on Thursday, commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army (NA), Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi, hinged the successes recorded in addressing kidnapping and banditry in the state on the information provided by operatives of the local security outfit.

Mr Ifeanyi noted that it was important to smoothen the relationship between the army and the Amotekun Corps in the fight against kidnapping and rooting out the criminal elements in the state.

“The army has been working in synergy, particularly at the local level, with your operatives. Most of your men are infused in all the local government areas. They have been passing actionable information.

“We want the already established synergy to continue, and we like to move it to the next level. We will try to cooperate and work with your people to curtail crime. The prevalent crime is kidnapping,” the army boss said.

Remarking, Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of the Amotekun, said the security outfit had been gathering intelligence and conducting investigations to tackle crimes, especially in the border towns.

Mr Adeleye, however, said the success stories the corps recorded resulted from its operatives’ resilient nature and hard work.

No fewer than twenty persons have been abducted by bandits in the past one month in Ondo, with motorists and residents expressing concerns over the ugly development.
