Man jailed for stealing tricycle batteries

A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state, on Monday, sentenced one Taofeek Toheeb to six months in prison for breaking into a store to steal tricycle batteries worth N485,000.
The magistrate, A. O. Salawu, sentenced 25-year-old Mr Toheeb, who pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of burglary, damage to property and stealing.
Ms Salawu did not give him an option of fine but sentenced him to hard labour.
She said the convict is to serve two months jail term on each of the counts, adding that the sentences should run consecutively.
The convict resides at No 40, Bale Moshalashi St., Orile Iganmu, Lagos State.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Oriabure, told the court that Mr Toheeb committed the offences on Jan. 10 at No. 128, Apata St., Shomolu, Lagos state.
He said that Mr Toheeb broke into a store, stole five tricycle batteries valued at N485,000 and damaged the entrance to the store.
Mr Oriabure said the stolen property belonged to one Eweje Oluwaseyi.
The offences contravene Sections 287, 309 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
