Man bags six-month jail term for theft in Kwara

An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro in Ilorin, Kwara State, has sentenced one Musa Biliaminu, 22, to six months in jail for criminal trespass, house breaking, mischief and theft of aluminium window frames.
Delivering judgment, the trial judge, Toyin Aluko, said that the convict admitted to committing the offences when his plea was taken.
He said that the prosecution proved its case beyond doubt.
He stated, “The defendant is hereby sentenced as follows; two months imprisonment for criminal trespass or N50,000 fine, six months imprisonment for house breaking or N100,000 fine. Also, one month imprisonment for mischief or N20,000 fine and six months imprisonment for theft or N50,000 fine.”
The judge said that the convict was to serve the sentences concurrently at the federal correctional centre.

Mr Samuel said that it was reported that the convict criminally trespassed into the house of one Saheed Anafi of Odota Area, removed and damaged aluminium window frames.
“He folded the aluminium into a sack and ran away when he saw members of the PCPRC coming towards his direction,” the prosecutor said.
Mr Samuel said that the convict was later arrested with the stolen goods worth N385,000.
He said that the convict pleaded guilty to the offences during a police investigation.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 348, 354, 327 and 288 of the penal code law.
