Man, 20, in court over alleged theft, breach of peace

The police, on Tuesday, arraigned one Oluwalomonse Tolu, 20, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing Infinix Hot 6X phone valued at N150, 000 and for breach of peace.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 16 at about 2:00 p.m at Fayose Market in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant stole an Infinix Hot 6X phone valued at N150, 000 belonging to one Ogunremi Babatunde.
He also alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace.
Mr Adeniyi said that the offence contravened Sections 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The Counsel to the defendant, Mr Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till April 16, for hearing.
