Man, 19, remanded for allegedly attempting to steal Lagos church property

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday remanded a 19-year-old man, Samuel Joseph, for attempting to steal property belonging to a church.
Joseph had earlier pleaded guilty to a count charge of attempted stealing.
Following his guilty plea, Magistrate Lateef Owolabi ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned the case till July 22.
The defendant’s remand came after the magistrate had listened to the review of facts by the Prosecutor, SP Josephine Ikhayere.
Ikhayere had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 24 at First African Church, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.
He said that the defendant was apprehended inside the church.
The prosecutor said that Joseph gained access into the church premises with the intention to steal some property, including a Haier Thermocool air conditioner valued at N250,000.
According to her, the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 287 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
