Court adjourns trial of alleged drug trafficker until July 24

A Federal High Court, Lagos Division, on Thursday adjourned until July 24 the trial of a defendant, Ahmadu Abubakar, charged with alleged drug trafficking.
The case, which is before Justice Isaac Dipeolu, was initially scheduled to proceed on Thursday, but was adjourned at the request of the defence.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency charged Abubakar with the alleged importation of cannabis sativa from Canada into Nigeria.
According to the agency, the defendant imported 164.5kg of the narcotic, concealed in eight jumbo suitcases.
He is also alleged to have conspired with one Ughenu Nnaife Francis, a convicted drug offender, and another accomplice identified simply as “Black,” who is currently at large.
The NDLEA further alleged that Abubakar procured Nnaife, who was convicted in May 2024, to traffic the cannabis into Nigeria.
The prosecuting agency alleged offences contravened Sections 11(c) and 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
