LGAs restate commitment to promoting rural governance

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has restated its commitment to promoting rural governance and service delivery to improve livelihoods and enhance the overall well-being of Nigerians.
“We will work assiduously to promote rural governance, service delivery to improve livelihoods and enhance the overall well-being of our people,” ALGON’s national president, Bello Lawal, said in a felicitation message to the Muslim faithful in commemoration of 2025 Eid-el-Fitr in Abuja on Sunday.
Mr Lawal prayed that Allah brings comfort, relief, and prosperity to millions of homes and families of Muslims.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met. Our advocacy for good governance and sustainable development in the LGAs will continue to remain part of our priority.
“ALGON will continue to work together with other tiers of government, NGF, MDAs and Development Partners to develop our capacity in leadership, with innovative strategies to support the rural economy,” Mr Lawal said.
Mr Lawal said ALGON’s advocacy would
continue to remain part of its priority, as it acknowledged the economic hardship amidst spiritual renewal and hope.
“I appreciate the unwavering faith and resilience of our Muslim brothers and sisters, who have persevered through the trials of fasting and spiritual reflection,” he said.
The president said ALGON could not ignore the economic hardship and challenges that many Nigerians are facing, including Muslim brothers and sisters.
According to him, the struggles to make ends meet, the empty stomachs and the unimaginable hardships are a stark reality that we must confront together.
He added that the challenges were particularly pronounced in local governments and area councils where poor farmers resided and jobless Nigerians struggled to survive amidst numerous existential challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug/substance abuse.
“Once again, Eid Mubarak! and may Allah’s blessings be upon you now and forever,” he said.
