Kwara assembly pushes for heart-related disease awareness

The Kwara State House of Assembly has stressed the importance of creating awareness on preventing heart-related diseases.
This call to action followed a motion on notice moved by Rasaq Owolabi, representing the Share/Oke-Ode constituency, at Wednesday’s plenary in Ilorin.
Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, while reading the resolutions, urged the state government to direct the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to develop long-term plans for managing heart-related diseases.
He also emphasised the need for comprehensive health awareness programmes to ensure early disease detection.
Mr Owolabi, the mover of the motion, identified heart diseases as a range of issues that could impede the heart’s regular functions.
He cited excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, consuming fatty foods, and illegal drug abuse as potential causes of heart disease.
Other lawmakers praised Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq’s administration for its efforts to improve the health sector and provide access to quality healthcare services for the citizens.
