Wanson Yusufu, the executive secretary of the Plateau Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board (PCPWB), has urged residents of the state to be vigilant to forestall all forms of insecurity.

He said this in an interview on Sunday in Jos while speaking against the backdrop of the recent killings in some parts of the state.

Mr Yusuf urged residents to be keepers of themselves against external predators as Plateau had been known for its peaceful and hospitable disposition.

“Plateau people are known to be a peaceful and hospitable people; we welcome people, we have lived together for years with strangers, we are known with this reputation,” he said.

According to him, the story has now changed because somebody has a different intention or ambition that is not spelt out vividly.

“Based on the reports of what happened recently, some of these people causing the attacks on innocent people regularly are not necessarily of the Plateau origin.

“It shows somebody will come from afar, make an arrangement with somebody who is here and then attack the people.

“So my advice or call to the people is to be security conscious, be your brother’s keeper. We should be very conscious of who is walking around us.

“Most importantly to our leaders, a traditional ruler has the responsibility to ensure the safety of his subjects; who comes into your territory? Why is he there? You should be able to check,” Mr Yusuf said.

He added, “So I think that people should be conscious of who is coming into their space, why is he or she there, they should checkmate such people and report when necessary to the relevant authorities. ”
