Ibrahim Bagangida varsity lecturers suspend strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, in Niger State, has suspended its strike.
The union embarked on the strike over the state government’s failure to implement the 2025 agreement.
The ASUU-IBBU chairman, Galadima Audu told the Peoples Gazette that the strike was suspended on Thursday during congress.
“The strike was suspended to honour the governor, the students and parents were complaining during the strike and of course to open opportunities for the government to implement agreements that were reached,” he told The Gazette.
He stated that no part of the resolution had been implemented yet, adding that they were taking from this month October, adding that was what was agreed on.
“The strike was suspended on conditions that if the agreements are not fulfilled as promised or contained in the agreement we can of course resume the strike without giving any ultimatum,” he said.
According to Mr Audu, the union expected more from the government after several rounds of discussions, noting that many issues had yet to be fully resolved, including the implementation of the arrears.
He stated, “The implementation of the 35 per cent arrear is also on ground. We have suspended that to give room for us to resolve these issues.
“The refund is supposed to go back to our members for this contributory pension people who are exempted for contributory pension.
“We thought that if we put all of this information in front it may hinder the suspension because students and parents have been complaining and we are giving room for discussion.”
Recall that The Gazette reported on August 25 that the university declared an indefinite strike over non-implementation of 2025 agreements by the state government.
