Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa has urged Nigerians, including the people of Bayelsa, to renew their commitment to peace, unity and collective development.

Mr Diri made the call on Thursday in a live broadcast marking Bayelsa’s 30th anniversary and Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

He said the triple celebration of the new month of October, Bayelsa’s creation and Nigeria’s independence made the day particularly significant.

The governor congratulated the people of Bayelsa at home and abroad, urging them to promote peace, unity, brotherhood and development.

He said Bayelsa’s 30th anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on the state’s journey and achievements over three decades.

Mr Diri also congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, describing it as a moment to celebrate resilience and diversity.

He urged citizens to reflect on their collective aspirations and responsibilities towards building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

The governor congratulated President Bola Tinubu, members of the National Assembly, governors, public servants and Nigerians on the occasion.

He called for renewed patriotism, peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility to advance national development and strengthen unity.

Mr Diri urged the people to appreciate the sacrifices of past leaders and citizens who contributed to Bayelsa’s creation and Nigeria’s development.

He said the future should be anchored on peace, justice, equity, progress and shared prosperity for all citizens.

The governor expressed optimism that Bayelsa would continue contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth through its human capital and natural resources.

He also highlighted the state’s cultural heritage and strategic importance as assets capable of supporting national development.

Mr Diri encouraged the people of Bayelsa to remain united and support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents across the state.

He said building a better Bayelsa and Nigeria remained a collective responsibility requiring the commitment of every citizen.

“Happy New Month to all the people of Bayelsa. Congratulations to our dear Bayelsa State on 30 years of creation,” Diri said.

He also wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Anniversary, while congratulating Tinubu and citizens across the country.

“May our dear state and country continue to grow in peace, unity and prosperity,” the governor prayed.
