A coalition of civil societies, including the Joint Action Front, Take it Back Movement, on Thursday, called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to put an end to biting economic hardship and widespread insecurity ravaging Nigeria.

The group stated this during a demonstration, with placards-carrying protesters gathered under the bridge at Mokola Roundabout, Ibadan.

Speaking, the chairperson of the coalition, Abiodun Aremu, decried the worsening state of the economy, noting that most of the policies of the Tinubu government have a lasting toll on Nigerians.

Mr Aremu said, “We are out today because today is June 12. Unfortunately for us, there are hardly any dividends to show for it. What we have today is what they called renewed hope, which has ceased to be truly one.

“The government of President Bola Tinubu is two years in office on May 29, 2025. For working people, youth and other ordinary Nigerians, the administration whose mantra is ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ has proved to be a monumental failure.”

JAF secretary Abiodun Bamgboye, stressed that Nigerians are suffering from outrageous spike in fuel price, inadequacy of electricity generation and distribution, and an unwarranted hike in payable fees across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

“We demand immediate repositioning of all public refineries and end to importation of petroleum products, nationalization of the power sector under the control and management of the elected representatives of the working people. Our schools are not in the best conditions,” Mr Bamgboye said.

A student of the University of Ibadan, Gabriel Oluwaferanmi, lamented that the education sector has not been spared the adverse effects of underfunding.

Mr Oluwaferanmi said, “We are having to pay exorbitant fees, with hardly any notable change in the known quality. President Tinubu and Nigerian leaders should rethink their commitment to the education sector. Student loans have only changed the patterns of fees.”
