Husband, 51, arraigned for allegedly assaulting wife

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

A 51-year-old man, Jido Samson, on Thursday appeared before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly assaulting his wife.

Samson, whose address was not provided, was charged with assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Aminu Isaac, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 20 at about 4pm at No. 22, Adunloye St., Agunfoye Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Isaac said that the defendant beat-up his wife, Nkechi during an argument and called her unprintable names.

He said that the defendant subjected the complainant to psychological trauma, depression.

“The beating and verbal assault on the complainant has led to several health challenges,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate B.A Sonuga granted the defendant N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until February 27 for mention.
