A Senior Magistrates` Court sitting in Karu, Abuja on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old guard, Boniface Yusuf, to eight weeks community service for stealing six Gardbundles of cables worth N2.7 million.

The Magistrate, Anwar Kazaure, however did not give the convict an option of fine, but ordered him to pay a compensation of N360,000.

Mr Kazaure also ordered the convict to pay the compensation on instalments of N30, 000 monthly and failure to do so; would earn him sentencing to three months in prison in lieu of compensation.

Yusuf, who resides at Karu in FCT, Abuja, and pleaded guilty to the charge, was convicted on three-count charge of criminal breach of trust by a servant, theft by a servant and criminal misappropriation.

The Prosecution counsel, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the Chief Executive Officer of Passion Trust Supermarket Karu, Emmanuel Eneji, reported the matter at Karu Police Station on October 7.

He said that the convict, who was employed as a guard, committed the offence sometime in October at the above supermarket.

Adeyanju added that the convict in the course of performing his duty stole six bundles of 16mm cables valued at N2.7million.

The prosecutor further said that the convict also stole some items worth N4 million, adding that all the items stolen by him valued N6.7 million.

He said that a police investigation was still ongoing to recover the stolen items.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 314, 289, and 309 of Penal Code
