Gov. Oborevwori pledges advancement of higher education in Delta

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated commitment to advancing higher education in the state.
He gave the assurance on Saturday during the thanksgiving ceremony of the Vice Chancellor of Delta University, Prof. Sam Asagba.
Mr Oborevwori was represented at the ceremony by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Tonukari Johnbull.
The governor stated that his administration was dedicated to building institutions of global repute in research, teaching, and entrepreneurship.
He further assured the university community of his unwavering support to facilitate DELSU’s continuous growth.
He stated, “We will continue to emphasise education as a crucial catalyst for development and focus on efforts to enhance infrastructure, research funding, and overall academic excellence.”
During the ceremony, Bishop Great Ameye of the Freedom Family Assembly delivered a sermon titled “Every Soul is a Subject of Higher Authority.”
He highlighted the obstacles visionary leaders often face, urging leaders to use their authority constructively for development rather than for destruction.
In his remarks, Mr Asagba expressed gratitude to the governor for appointing him as Vice Chancellor of DELSU.
He commended the governor for his commitment to education, particularly the prompt payment of staff salaries and implementation of the new national minimum wage.
“It is indeed a profound honour and privilege to stand before you all on this historic day in my life,” Mr Asagba said.
He reflected on his journey from a young assistant lecturer in 1994 to a vice chancellor of the university.
Dgnitaries at the event included Prof. Emmanuel Uphuophu-Biri, Rector of the Delta State Polytechnic, Otege-Oghara; King of Idjerhe Kingdom, Monday Whiskey and the Chief Strategist to Governor Oborevwori, Dr Festus Okubor.
Other notable attendees were Prof. Sam Oyovwaire, Chairman of the DELSU Governing Council, Prof. Sam Oyovwaire; and General Alexander Ogomudia (retd), among others.
