Gov. Makinde pledges more support for state-owned varsities

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo has promised more support to state-owned higher institutions.
This, according to Mr Makinde is to enable them meet their obligations to students, staffers and the people of the state.
The governor made the promise on Friday in Ibadan while inaugurating the governing councils of the two state-owned universities.
The two universities are Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.
The governor, who asserted that education was one of the major pillars of his administration, said that his government has been putting in the work to improve the sector.
He said that his administration’s commitment to improving the education sector has been yielding positive results.
Mr Makinde further announced that his government would soon address the issue of subventions to LAUTECH and the Technical University
He added that primary healthcare centres would be built on the campuses of the two institutions before the end of the year.
“The governing councils of both universities have important roles to play in both universities.
“They are responsible for overseeing their strategic development including the academic direction, among others,” he said.
Ayodeji Omole is the chairman of the newly-inaugurated LAUTECH governing council.
Also, Adesola Adeduntan is the chairman of the inaugurated governing council of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University.
