Scavenger dies, three others injured in Lagos explosion

Residents of Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos State, were on Thursday, thrown into panic after an explosion rocked the area around 12:00 p.m.
A metal scrap dealer, also known as scavenger, died and four others injured after the explosion which occurred in a scrap yard in the area.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, told Peoples Gazette on Saturday, that the three injured scavengers were currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
“One killed, three hospitalised. Military grenade being dismantled by metal scrap dealers, also known as scavengers. The area has been cordoned off and rendered safe by EOD (Explosive and Ordnance Department) personnel of the Nigerian Police Force,” Mr Hundeyin said.
He added that said investigation was ongoing to unravel how the grenade got into the hands of the scavengers and where they got it from.
