Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has inaugurated the construction of a 6.4-kilometre township road in Argungu town.

Mr Idris said during the inauguration in Argungu that the road, a dual carriageway, would gulp over N7.23 billion.

He said the project constitutes road construction, drainage systems and the installation of solar streetlights.

The governor explained that the project was a fulfilment of parts of his campaign promises, adding that 50 to 60 per cent of the promises have been fulfilled so far.

He said the government had already mobilised the contractor to the site with a 40 per cent down payment of the contract sum, adding that the remaining balance has been set aside.

“We don’t award contracts unless we have the money because we don’t want to abandon any project in this regime. All ongoing projects will be completed,” he assured.

The governor added that the construction of rural roads to link several villages would also commence.

He also promised to commence renovation of Argungu General Hospital and equip it with modern facilities.

“It is not only renovation, but also we are going to supply the hospital with modern equipment, and more doctors will be deployed to the hospital,” he added.

On education, the governor said his administration would pay fees for the West African Examination Council and National Examination Council for final-year students in secondary schools.

He promised to sustain the payment of scholarships to students studying within and outside the country.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Works, Abdullahi Faruq-Muelim, said the 6.4-kilometre dual carriageway township road was awarded to Amirco Universal Concept.

Mr Faruq-Muelim said the contractor was expected to complete the project within 12 months.

He reiterated the current administration’s commitment to executing projects that impact the lives of the people.
