Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has called on state residents to remain calm and peaceful as the collation of results of the just-concluded governorship supplementary election has been suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor, who addressed a news conference in Yola on Sunday, has commended the national headquarters of INEC for its prompt action, halting the declaration of APC governorship candidate Aishatu Binani as governor-elect.

He expressed optimism that eventually, the electoral umpire would collate and announce the election winner, saying only 11 local government areas were collated out of 20.

The governor thanked the security agencies and people of the state for demonstrating courage and maturity throughout the tension period, stressing that nobody would subvert your democratic rights.

Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Adamawa State, sidestepped the INEC returning officer, Mele Kyari, to declare Aishatu Binani of the APC as the winner of the rerun election.
