Gov. Buni donates N32 million to Nigerian Legion in Yobe

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has donated N32 million to the Nigerian Legion to enhance the welfare of fallen heroes and veterans in the state.
Mr Buni disclosed this at the launch of Emblem Appeal Week in Damaturu on Wednesday, as part of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
According to him, N30 million of the amount is donated by the state government, while N2 million is his personal donation to the legion.
He, however, expressed gratitude to the veterans who defended the territorial integrity of Nigeria and made sacrifices in keeping the country as one indivisible entity.
“In the course of their tour of duty, some paid the supreme price, others were maimed and remain incapacitated for the future of our dear country in particular and humanity in general. Here in Yobe State, we are indebted to the huge contributions made by the Nigeria armed forces, some of whom are now members of the Nigeria Legion, the police, and other security agencies in the fight against insurgency and kidnapping. We salute your loyalty, courage and selfless devotion to our great Country and in defence of justice, liberty, unity and human dignity,” the governor said.
He pledged his administration’s continued support to the veterans and families of the fallen heroes, urging members of the public to also donate cash to the legion as soon as they receive the emblems.
Mr Buni directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the Head of Service (HoS) to provide slots to the children and dependents of the veterans and fallen heroes in subsequent recruitments at the federal and state civil service.
In his remarks, Chairman, State Chapter, Nigerian Legion, Capt. Ibrahim Gadine (retd) thanked Buni for his administration’s immense support to the organisation.
