Yobe governor inaugurates 500 housing units, road projects in Maiduguri

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday inaugurated 500 housing units constructed by the Borno State government in the Njimtilo area of Maiduguri.
Mr Buni, who is on an official visit to the state, also unveiled the Borno Express flyover and the dualised Shousanda–Kura Road.
The projects were initiated by the Babagana Zulum administration to stimulate urban renewal and encourage economic development geared towards improving the quality of life of the citizens.
Mr Buni lauded the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Borno and Yobe states, underscoring their shared resilience in tackling challenges, including the Boko Haram insurgency.
According to him, the two state governments are working to rebuild and improve conditions for their people.
“The people of Borno and Yobe have always been one, bonded by shared history and culture. Despite the challenges of insurgency, both states have adopted the Rehabilitation, Reconstruction, and Recovery Programme to improve the dignity of our people,” he said.
He said the Yobe government under his stewardship invested heavily in education, healthcare, agriculture, and empowerment programmes, including a N2.9 billion economic stimulus package.
Mr Buni commended Mr Zulum in spearheading transformative projects in Borno.
Also speaking, Mr Zulum described Mr Buni’s presence as a testament to the unity and collaboration between the states.
“These projects reflect our administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing, improving infrastructure, and driving economic development. The Njimtulo 500 Housing Estate and Metro Housing Units are equipped with modern amenities to improve residents’ quality of life,” he said.
He said the projects would be named after important figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Mai Mala Buni, in recognition of their contributions to regional development.
The governor announced plans to execute additional infrastructure projects, including an international conference centre and an expanded housing scheme for security personnel.
Mr Zulum said the Borno Express flyover would ease traffic flow and boost economic activities while the dualisation of the Shousanda–Kura Road would reduce congestion and facilitate smooth transportation.
Commending the federal government, security agencies, and development partners for their support in fostering development in the region, Mr Zulum said the houses would be allocated to security personnel in the state.
