Ghanaian Samuel Sey detained by ICE after backing Trump’s immigration crackdown

Christian writer Samuel Sey has been arrested in Ohio and detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Jail records showed that Mr Sey, 39, was detained on Wednesday, although he had not yet been charged with a crime.
His official status was listed on Friday afternoon as “Hold for ICE.”
Mr Sey’s detention has drawn attention because of his outspoken support for President Donald Trump’s administration’s immigration crackdown.
He has defended the deportation policy on Christian ethical grounds and criticised demonstrators opposing ICE enforcement activities.
Mr Sey, who moved to the U.S. in 2022 and got married in Ohio, had said that he did not have permanent residency status and was not authorised to work in the U.S.
While continuing to write and comment on conservative platforms, including The Daily Wire, World, Turning Point USA and others, Mr Sey sought financial support.
His detention came amid a wider debate over the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies and the circumstances in which people were held by ICE.
A new analysis by the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) also revealed that Mr Trump’s administration deported 980,000 migrants during the first 18 months of his second term.
