The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it is committed to reducing highway accidents and fatalities.

William Manga, the commander of the FRSC, Badagry Unit Command, announced this on Saturday during the special marshals workshop in Badagry, Lagos State.

The workshop was themed “Empowering Special On Patrol Operations and Public Enlightenment.”

According to the commander, the FRSC mission statement is to regulate, enforce and coordinate full road traffic and safety management activities.

“This is through effective patrol operations, prompt rescue service, improved vehicle administration and public enlightenment,” he said.

Mr Manga said the workshop was a crucial step towards achieving FRSC goals and allowing them to share knowledge, ideas, and best practices in road safety management.

Also speaking, Essien Nwachukwu, unit coordinator 31, Special Marshals, Badagry command, said they were being enlightened on how to save lives in case of accidents or emergencies.

“The workshop has taught members how we can resuscitate someone who is an accident victim by giving him first aid treatment,” he said.

Emmanuel Williams, the secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, Lagos State Division, said, “We have discussed fracture, fainting and epilepsy, which are cases that happen on a daily basis on the highway because people need to be helped.

“We noticed that in most cases, accident victims will die because people that are around them do not know what to do to save them.”

More than 150 special marshals from the Badagry division attended the workshop.
