Sports commission hails Lagos athletes feat at Elimination Ball Games in Osogbo

The Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, has applauded the performance of athletes at the ongoing South-West Zonal Elimination Ball Games in Osogbo, Osun State.
Mr Fatodu commended the athletes on Saturday while reviewing the performance of athletes representing the state at the elimination games, saying that they had been able to engage the youth to express their talents.
Expressing the state readiness for the National Youth Games, Mr Fatodu lauded the commitment and support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in ensuring that the state excels in Asaba, Delta State.
He also acknowledged the huge investment committed to the team’s welfare and preparations, noting that LSSC had meticulously selected athletes that were capable of winning laurels for the state.
In some of the results, Lagos volleyball team (boys) trounced host’s Osun 2-0 (21-7,21-5), while the female football team defeated Oyo 3-1.
Two goals from Muhammed Habeeb in the boys football game were enough to seal a 2-1 victory for Team Lagos against Ekiti State.
In the Hockey event, Lagos female team trashed Osun 3-0, as Team Lagos humbled Osun female Volleyball team 2-0 (25-16,25-10), while the Handball female team defeated Oyo 9-5.
Mr Fatodu said that the results recorded by the Lagos team were an indication of the level of their dominance in the ongoing qualifications.
He stated, “The highly competitive zonal elimination has been dominated by Team Lagos and the athletes were motivated to deliver on the final day of competition on Saturday.”
Team Lagos is represented by 188 athletes at the South-West Zonal Elimination in Osogbo, competing for slots in eight events including Football, Basketball, Cricket, Handball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Hockey and Abula.
