FG appoints new VC for Admiralty University

The Federal government has approved the appointment of Lucian Chukwu as the substantive vice-chancellor of Admiralty University, Ibuzor, Delta State.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Ministry of Education spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, on Saturday.
Ms Boriowo said the university’s governing council held a selection exercise on February 26 and 27, 2025, to appoint a new vice-chancellor, during which five candidates were interviewed.
The five candidates included Lucian Chukwu, a professor of Marine Biology and current deputy vice-chancellor (management services) at the University of Lagos; Sunny Iyuke, a professor of chemical and process engineering and chief executive officer of the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State; Lawrence Omo-Aghoja, provost of the College of Medicine, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka; Ifeoma Ijeh, a professor of biochemistry and director of the Centre for Molecular Bioscience and Biotechnology at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, and Mr Ogbogbo.
Mr Chukwu emerged as the top contender with a score of 83.41 per cent, ultimately leading to his appointment.
Ms Boriowo said, “The governing council of Admiralty University, Ibuzor, conducted the selection exercise for the appointment of a substantive vice-chancellor on 26th and 27th February 2025 at the council chamber of the university. At the end of the exercise, Professor Lucian O. Chukwu emerged as the highest scorer, with 83.41 per cent among the five interviewed candidates.
“In line with the principle of merit being upheld by the federal government, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, has approved the appointment of Professor Lucian O. Chukwu as the substantive vice-chancellor of Admiralty University, Ibuzor.
“The appointment is for a single tenure of five years with effect from 28th February 2025.”
Also, Ms Boriowo said the ministry extends heartfelt congratulations to the newly appointed vice-chancellor and wishes him a successful tenure in office.
