On Friday, a Jos Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 35-year-old farmer, Muhammed Rabiu, to two years’ imprisonment for stealing a water pump machine from a farm.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Rabiu following his guilty plea.

The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option to pay N50,000 as a fine.

She also ordered the convict to pay N200,000 as compensation to the complainant.

The prosecutor, Inrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘B’ Division Police Station on February 11 by Surajo Umar, the complainant.

Mr Gokwat said the convict stole the water pump worth N225,000 from Umar’s farm.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 286(1) of the Penal Code.
