EDTF reaffirms commitment to quality education in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to enhancing quality education at all levels in the state.
EDTF’s executive secretary, Alice Atuwo, said this in a statement on Friday during the grand finale of a debate competition for secondary schools sponsored by the fund.
The schools debate, a programme aired on Glory FM Radio Bayelsa, has been running for 14 years but was revived in 2024 with support from the EDTF.
Ms Atuwo said initiatives like the debate helped to develop critical thinking, effective communication, and self-confidence among young people.
The competition saw Community Secondary School (CSS), Ekeremor, emerge as the winner of the 2025 edition of the Bayelsa Schools Debate.
The topic for the final round was ‘Everyone is a Thief’.
Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Tungbo, secured second place, while Government Secondary School, Twon Brass, and Community Secondary School, Kolo, finished third and fourth, respectively.
The education commissioner, Gentle Emelah, led other dignitaries in presenting trophies and cash prizes to the winning schools.
Honey Kemeagbeyei of CSS Ekeremor and Godgift Peter of Government Secondary School, Twon Brass, received acclaim for their outstanding performances.
