The European Union on Tuesday condemned the attack on embassies in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The EU is calling for the protection of diplomatic missions in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The spokesman for the EU’s foreign affairs representative, Kaja Kallas, said in Brussels.

Regarding the attacks themselves, the spokesman did not provide details, citing the still unclear situation.

However, he noted that the foreign ministers of EU states had already expressed their willingness during their meeting on Monday to take action against those endangering peace and stability in Congo.

According to official reports, the attacks on embassies on Tuesday affected, among others, the EU countries of France and Belgium.

“These attacks are unacceptable. Everything is being done to ensure the safety of our staff and citizens,’’ French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot posted on the social media platform X.

The incidents followed several days of heavy fighting caused by the M23 rebel militia in the east of the country.
