Estate agent bags eight-year jail term for N9.7 million land fraud

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday sentenced an Estate Agent, Onimisi Ahmed to eight years imprisonment for N9.7 million land fraud.
In her judgment, Justice Olubusola Okunuga, found Ahmed guilty of the two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money by false pretence, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Justice Okunuga sentenced him to four years jail term on each count.
The judge, however, said that the sentences should run concurrently.
The judge also ordered Ahmed’s Company, Funmi Oni Properties Limited, to pay a fine of N4 million.
Additionally, the court ordered Ahmed to pay N6 million in restitution to one of the petitioners.
The EFCC Counsel, Spiff Owede called three witnesses, including EFCC investigator, Idi Musa, and tendered several documents to support the case.
Mr Owede told the court that the convict received N6 million and N3.7 million from two petitioners in 2015 under the pretext of selling plots of land at Breakthrough Estate, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
According to the commission, the convict failed to deliver the land and refused to refund the money since 2016, prompting the petitioners to seek redress.
According to the anti-graft agency, the alleged offences violate Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015
