Enugu Campaigns: Police order area commanders, DPOs to strengthen security
The police commissioner in Enugu, Mamman Giwa, has ordered area commanders and divisional police officers to strengthen security in their respective jurisdictions as political campaigns heighten.
The ‌police commissioner gave the directive during a conference with senior officers of the command at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu on Wednesday.
Mr Giwa also briefed the officers on key outcomes of the recently concluded Conference and Retreat of Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026), held in Owerri, Imo.
Expressing concern over recent political developments in the state, Mr Giwa charged them to ensure adequate security coverage for all political gatherings. According to him, all political gatherings should be given security coverage whether formally notified to the police or not, to prevent security breaches.
To facilitate effective security deployment, Mr Giwa directed the personnel to engage political parties within their jurisdictions and obtain their campaign schedules for proper security planning.
“Officers should remain neutral, non-partisan and guided by the professional and ethical standards of the Police Force throughout the electioneering period,” he cautioned.
Mr Giwa reaffirmed the command’s commitment to impartial policing and providing adequate security for citizens generally, particularly for all lawful political activities across Enugu. He charged officers heading tactical and operational departments, formations and units to strengthen crime-fighting strategies and sustain intelligence gathering.
The commissioner also charged them to conduct professional raids on identified criminal hideouts within their areas of responsibility.
