EFCC arrests 40 for internet fraud in Akwa Ibom

The Uyo zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 40 suspects for alleged internet fraud.
In a statement on Friday, the anti-graft agency stated that the suspects were nabbed on Thursday in Eket and Ikot Ekpene.
The statement read, “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Zonal Command on Thursday, May 30, 2024, arrested 40 suspected internet fraudsters in early morning sting operations at two different locations in the state.
“Twenty-one of the all-male suspects were arrested in Eket, while the remaining 19 were picked up in Ikot Ekpene.”
“Items recovered from the suspects upon arrest include one Toyota SUV XLE, nine laptop computers, 64 smartphones, one internet router and a smartwatch.”
The anti-corruption agency stated that the suspects would be charged to court after the investigation has been concluded.
