Nigerian weightlifters ready to shine at Paris 2024 Olympics, says NWF president

Ibrahim Abdul, the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) president, said on Friday that the federation will make the country proud at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024 in France.
Abdul told journalists in Abuja that the federation’s target is to achieve the highest levels of success by winning gold medals and finishing on the podium in Paris.
He said two athletes will represent the federation at the upcoming Olympic Games.
“We have gone through all the pathways for the Olympics, and we have qualified two athletes. He said we are currently in camp and training,” he said.
He explained that the two athletes would also participate in the two-week camp in Paris before the Olympics commenced.
“The African weightlifting associations have also organised camps for all African athletes who qualified for the Olympic Games from July 12 to July 25 in France.
“We also want to align with that of the ministry but currently we are in camp and everything is going well.
“We are going to have a training camp abroad; that’s with our African body training camp,” he said.
Rafiatu Lawal (women’s 59 kg) and Joy Eze (women’s 71 kg) secured two of the top ten slots in their weight divisions based on the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) Olympic qualification ranking finals.
On Thursday, the Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh, met with all of the federation’s presidents and secretaries.
The meeting was to discuss the road map and training plan to help the country succeed in the upcoming Olympics.
Eighty-eight athletes have qualified for the Olympics, and many others are still in the qualification process before the closing windows.
The 2024 Summer Olympics Games, known as Paris 2024, is an upcoming international multisport event scheduled to take place in France from July 26 to August 11.
Paris is the main host city, and 16 other cities are spread across Metropolitan France, with one subsite in Tahiti.
