Edo State Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, presented their certificates of return to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.

Messrs Okpebholo and Idahosa, elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, visited Mr Tinubu after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented their certificates at the electoral umpire’s headquarters in Abuja.

A video of the visit shared by The Cable showed the governor-elect and his deputy kneeling to thank the president as they shook hands with him. The duo was accompanied by Edo’s former governor, Adams Oshiomole, and other party officials.

“Edo State governor-elect, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, and deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, collected their certificates of return from @inecnigeria. Accompanied by the national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje and party leaders, they presented their certificates to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” APC tweeted.

The electoral body had declared Mr Okpebholo the winner of the September 21, 2024, governorship election in the South-Southern state after he polled 291,667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who amassed 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party came third with 22,763 votes.
