The Ebonyi State Fire Service said on Monday that it recorded 75 fire outbreaks and one death in 2024.

Raphael Ibiam, the director of the fire service, gave the figure in Abakaliki.

Mr Ibiam identified negligence and non-compliance with fire safety tips as major causes of the fire incidents.

He said that property worth N257.2 million was estimated to have been lost while property valued at N2.2 billion was saved during the period.

The director commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his support of the fire service through the provision of firefighting equipment.

“The procurement of tools, fire engines, and one hundred drums of 200-litre chemical foam compound by the state government was helpful,” he said.

Mr Ibiam urged Abakaliki residents to adhere strictly to safety tips in order to prevent fire outbreaks and their resultant effects.
