Earthquake kills 1000, injures 2000 in Myanmar

At least 1000 persons died and over 2000 injured in an earthquake that occurred in Myanmar on Friday.
The 7.7 – magnitude earthquake struck outside Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city, according to the New York Times report.
Thirty other persons are also missing in devastation, which happened near the Sagaing Fault, which runs north-south through the centre of Myanmar.
The country’s military government confirmed this on Saturday.
The South-East Asian country is in the midst of a protected civil war that has created a humanitarian crisis that makes travel between areas dangerous, difficult and dangerous.
Many buildings were left in ruins and patients were camped outside the city’s main hospital, which had been overcrowded with people.
However, the quake has prompted an extraordinary appeal from Myanmar’s internationally isolated government for outside aid.
International aid has been sent to the country, with China and India sending search teams and relief supplies.
The two countries have sent blankets and food for survivors as teams of rescuers, equipped with drones and other equipment to help with the search effort.
The junta is under heavy sanctions by the United States, Britain, and others.
President Donald Trump, whose administration has slashed foreign aid and staff, said the United States would help.
Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and other countries have offered aid in the form of teams of people, equipment, and funds.
