DEPOWA encourages military wives to exercise regularly

The president, Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Oghogho Musa, has urged wives of military personnel to embrace regular physical exercise and good self-care to stay healthy.
Mrs Musa gave the advice at the DEPOWA monthly aerobics and health walk on Saturday in Abuja.
She said that maintaining healthy eating habits and sustained regular exercises were crucial for maintaining their overall health and well being.
According to her, a healthy eating habit helps maintain a healthy weight reducing the risk of obesity related diseases.
“Furthermore, regular exercises reduce stress, anxiety and depression that we are living in.
“We need to engage in physical activities and hobbies that bring joy and motivation.
“I would like to urge us all to remain dedicated to healthy eating habits and regular exercises as we move forward to rotating the exercise monthly within the associations and formation,” she said.
A public health expert, Grace Ajibogwu, urged the women to consider good sleep, diet, meditation and regular health checks for healthy living.
Ms Ajiboye said that women were required to sleep for seven to eight hours a day so as to be able to rest their body and prevent all manner of diseases.
According to her, when you have sleep deprivation, you are prone to any kind of non-communicable disease like hypertension and others.
“You also have to stay active because being active has this advantage of keeping you healthy, lowering your risk of various diseases like diabetes, cancer and all the likes,” she added.
The president, Nigerian Air Force Wives Association (NAFOWA), Rakiya Abubakar, said the association was replicating the exercise across units and commands.
She said the impact of the monthly exercise was being obvious and was making a lot of difference.
“In fact, it has encouraged some of them to go beyond monthly exercise to try to do it within their own homes and other states too are keen into the same programme.”
