Court remands man for allegedly defiling seven-year-old stepdaughter

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday remanded a 20-year-old man, Linus Sunday at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old step daughter, (name withheld).
Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Sunday at the custodial centre pending hearing of his bail application and determination of the case.
Soladoye adjourned the case until May 5 for commencement of trial.
Earlier, Sunday was arraigned on a count charge of defilement brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
He however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The state Counsel, Ibukun Ibikunle had prayed the court to remand the defendant.
Ms Ibikunle had also informed the court that the prosecution intended to call four witnesses to testify against the defendant.
She said that the defendant allegedly committed the offence sometime in December 2022, at Oladeinde Street, Aguda in Surulere, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the minor.
According to her, the alleged offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
