The Coalition of Funtua Community-Based Organisations has presented a memorandum proposing the creation of Karadua from the present Katsina.

The group made the presentation before the National Assembly Committee on Constitution Review, during a one-day public hearing on Monday.

The memorandum was presented by Tukur Lawal, the secretary of the Movement for the creation of Karaduwa State, and vice-chairman of the CFCBO.

Lawal explained that the coalition comprised grassroots stakeholders, development actors, and civil society advocates within the Funtua Senatorial Zone of Katsina state.

He noted that to promote equity, inclusivity, and development across Nigeria’s diverse regions, the coalition supports the creation of additional states as part of a constitutional reform.

“Specifically, we propose the creation of Karadua State, from the present Katsina South senatorial zone, also known as the Funtua senatorial zone. The zone has 11 LGAs, comprising Funtua, Bakori, Malumfashi, Kafur, Danja, Kankara, Sabuwa, Dandume, Faskari, Musawa, and Matazu.

“Furthermore, in line with the constitutional requirement of creating viable administrative units, we propose the creation of additional LGAs to reflect current population size, geographic spread, and administrative demands,” he said.

According to Mr Lawal, the formation of Karadua State will bring governance closer to the people, facilitate equitable resource allocation, and infrastructural development.

He said it would also enhance political participation and representation, reduce marginalisation, and improve security coordination at the grassroots.

“This request aligns with the spirit of federalism and supports national calls for restructuring to ensure balanced development across all zones,” he said.

He also proposed local government reform, the creation of state police, and called for the constitutional recognition of traditional rulers, given their formal roles in security, agriculture, and social welfare administration.
