Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi, on Monday, reaffirmed the country’s willingness to work closely with African countries to ensure the success of the 2024 summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Mr Wang revealed China’s readiness to host the summit, scheduled to take place between September 4 and September 5 in Beijing.

According to him, the summit’s success will contribute to Africa’s development and revitalisation.

“China is ready to deepen political trust with Africa, with the objective of elevating cooperation between the two countries.

“China is also ready to collaborate with South Africa to enhance strategic communication and deepen political trust and elevate bilateral cooperation.

“China and South Africa, as well as other African nations, are significant developing countries and key members of the Global South that share mutual trust and support for each other.

“They are also friendly partners in the development and cause for defending international justice.”

Meanwhile, the South African foreign minister, Ronald Lamola, highlighted the strong political trust and rapid economic and trade growth between the two countries, saying China had become the country’s largest trading partner.

According to him, South Africa respects the one-China policy, sovereignty and supports its stance on Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Xizang.
