The Nigeria Police Force has declared a British national, Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, wanted.

The force’s public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the declaration to journalists at the police headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

Mr Adejobi said the Briton is wanted over an alleged plot to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Bola Tinubu.

He added that the police had launched a comprehensive investigation into the alleged plot by foreign mercenaries and subversive elements “to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country.”

According to the police spokesperson, the Briton rented a space at Labour House, Abuja, for an ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and established ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ to cover up his subversive activities.

“Following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended, who received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilise the country.

“Preliminary findings suggest they orchestrated and funded violent protests, disseminated false information, and engaged in other unlawful activities to create anarchy and justify their illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government,” he alleged.

The declaration comes days after the police re-invited the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, over the British citizen Mr Wynne, his tenant at Labour House, Abuja, despite honouring their previous invitation days before.
